If you’re deciding when to plan your golf trip, fall is hard to beat. September through November brings the best course conditions of the year, comfortable weather, and a beach that’s still warm enough to enjoy after your round. It’s also one of the two busiest golf seasons on the Grand Strand — which is exactly why you want to book early.
Here’s the case for fall.
The courses are in their best shape
Summer heat and heavy play take a toll on Grand Strand courses. By fall, they’ve bounced back. Greens have healed from summer aeration and firm up as the temperatures drop, fairways are lush, and the layout plays the way the designer intended.
If you’re paying for a premium course like the Dye Club at Barefoot, True Blue, or Caledonia, fall is when you get your money’s worth.
The weather actually cooperates
Summer here is hot and humid — great for the beach, rough for 18 holes. Winter can turn cold and windy. Fall sits right in the middle:
- Daytime highs usually in the 70s
- Low humidity compared to summer
- The ocean stays warm well into October
You get full rounds without melting, and evenings cool enough to enjoy dinner on a deck.
It’s peak season — so book early
Fall books up fast. Tee sheets fill, especially afternoon times, and the best lodging goes first. If your group has specific dates, courses, or a big house in mind, waiting costs you options.
A few things worth locking in when you book:
- Replays. Afternoon replay rounds are often priced at or near cart fees, but they sell out. If your group likes 36-hole days, pre-book them instead of gambling on availability.
- Big group lodging. Beach houses that sleep the whole crew book out early in the fall.
- Premium tee times. Prime morning slots at the top courses are the first to go.
The beach is still in play
The golf is the reason for the trip, but fall gives you the full Myrtle Beach experience. The ocean’s still warm, the summer crowds have thinned out, and there’s plenty to do between rounds. It’s the kind of trip a buddy group actually wants to repeat.
When exactly is fall golf season?
Fall golf in Myrtle Beach runs from about mid-September through November. Early fall gives you the warmest weather and the liveliest atmosphere. Late fall, heading into November, starts sliding toward shoulder-season rates — so if your group is flexible and hunting value, that’s a good window.
