Hugh Royer III – Possum Trot
Myrtle Beach is home to many outstanding golf instructors, but there is one that has competed at the highest levels and wants to pass along his extensive knowledge to his pupils and that is Hugh Royer III.
Hugh grew up in Columbus, Georgia and learned his many skills from his father, Hugh Royer Jr., who played with much success on the PGA Tour. Many of the finer points of the game were taught to him by some the great golfing legends. Hugh had four wins on the NIKE Tour (now the Web.com) and one win on the Sunshine Tour. He competed on the PGA Tour from 1995 -1998 with the likes of Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Jim Furyk. After retiring from playing, Hugh wanted to pass along his extensive knowledge to others. He worked for three years at the International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head, S.C. where he instructed the 2005 U.S. Girls Champion, In-Kyung Kim.
Hugh teaches at Possum Trot Golf Club in North Myrtle Beach, which has one of the top three practice facilities in Myrtle Beach. He teaches all levels of golfers including juniors, beginners, all amateurs and professionals. Jack is from King of Prussia, Pa. and has over 45 years of experience in the golf industry. He began his career in golf at age 11 as a caddie and went on to become a member of the University of Scranton golf team. He moved on to play for a living and participated on many tours that include the Space Coast, Tommy Armour, PGA Tour, and after turning 50 the Moonlight Tour and Champions Tour Qualifying. Jack moved to Myrtle Beach in 2009 to teach and play golf and became a part of the Crow Creek Staff in 2009. Meridith Kirk – Lead Golf Instructor Dustin Johnston Gold School
Myrtle Beach golfers are lucky to have so many renowned golf instructors to choose from and one of the most recognized is Meredith Kirk of Murrells Inlet. Kirk was recently named the Lead Instructor at the Dustin Johnson Golf School at the TPC Myrtle Beach. She will join the staff of Allen Terrell who is Director of Coaching and Managing Partner.
Kirk is an LPGA-accredited instructor and has been teaching at Blackmoor Golf Club for the past six years. The new technological equipment at the school is top-of-the –line and features advanced swing analysis and fitting equipment. Kirk is excited to be working with such advanced equipment and believes it will aid in instructing beginning players as well as tour players.
Kirk has 17 years of teaching experience and was ranked third among the top instructors in South Carolina for 2015-16 by Golf Digest. She was also named one of the 40 “Best Young Teachers (under 40) in America” for 2014-15 by Golf Digest. Golf Digest also recognized Kirk as one of seven “Innovators” in golf for 2015 for the creation of the Junior Golf Exchange which is a non-profit organization that helps children under the age of 14 to receive fitted golf equipment at no cost. She served as Mrs. South Carolina in 2014 and was named one of the “Most Beautiful Women in Golf 2014-2015” by Golf.com.
Kirk earned a public relations degree from Coastal Carolina University and a degree in biblical counseling from Trinity Bible College. She also serves as a spokesperson/ambassador for Myrtle Beach golf and Founders Group International which owns and operates 22 Grand Strand golf courses and includes the TPC Myrtle Beach.
