When looking at the Moorland Course at the Legends golf resort on paper, the course can be perplexing and intimidating. With three par-4 holes that are more than 400 yards each (three that are 460+ yards!), the par 72 links will remind you of another golf course on the west coast that is known as one of the most challenging courses in the US – TPC Stadium Resort Course in California. The water hazards on the Moorland Course will also seem daunting, but this course is actually the shortest of all three courses at the Legends golf resort at just over 6,750 yards. All three courses at the Legends complex stay in excellent shape and they have wonderful practice facilities. Because they offer a great value for golfers, the courses tend to be full and of course, that can mean that the pace of play at Moorland tends to be slow. With that being said, the course is a great addition to any Myrtle Beach golf package.
You’ve got a few chances on the front nine to make a couple of birdies: 1, 6 and 8 are your best bet when looking for the elusive red number. #6 is a reachable Par 5 that brings a water hazard into play – right up to the green. #8 is a par-4 with an uphill approach shot – extra long hitters have a chance to get on the green or really close as this hole only measures 362 yards from the back tees – grip it and rip it if you are feeling squirrely!
On the back nine, you’ve got a couple more opportunities, like the par- 3 hole #13 that is downhill and has a very large green. Hole #16 is a par 4 that is perhaps the most well known hole at Moorland. This hole is only 270 yards from the back tee and is a risk-reward shot makers hole. Long hitters may try to carry the waste area that has been named “Hell’s Half Acre”. Should you carry this area, you are left with an eagle or birdie possibility. If you are unlucky enough to find your shot in the waste area, consider yourself lucky to find it. Getting to the green is also tricky with the bunkers that surround the green that is on the top of a large hill.
Moorland Golf Course was designed by P.B. Dye and opened for play in 1990 – this course uses extreme elevation changes, bunkers, water and multi-level greens to test the skill set of each and every golfer that plays this course. A great addition and value for your Myrtle Beach golf package as the Legends golf resort offers free breakfast/lunch and two drinks with most tee times. Book yours today!
