The 2019 Veterans Golf Classic came to an end this past week. The three-day tournament came to an end this past Wednesday with a fun-filled awards ceremony. During the festivities, awards were given to individual tournament winners as well as the branch of service winner. This year’s Armed Services Challenge Cup was awarded to the United States Army.
In addition to awards, the closing banquet served as an opportunity to recognize the valor and service of two decorated veterans. This year the Veterans Golf Classic chose to honor Ted Murphy, a veteran of the US Air Force, and George Marshall, a veteran of the US Army. Both men received the Purple Heart for injuries received during their respective tours of duty. During the closing festivities both men were honored with Quilts of Valor provided by the Quilts of Valor foundation.
“The week was perfectly organized, everything went smoothly,” said Nick Camera, a tournament participant and a 21-year veteran of the Army. “We had three rounds at three different golf courses. The staffs were fantastic, the golf courses were impeccable, and it really was a wonderful week.”
For over 20-years the Veterans Golf Classic has been a staple of the Myrtle Beach golf community. The tournament serves as an extraordinary opportunity for veterans of all ages and from all branches of service to enjoy world class golf on some of the Grand Strand’s most beautiful golf courses, while also honoring the bonds of service that all veterans share. It is a time of fellowship and comradery unlike any other.
