More than 90-days ago, we posted a blog entry regarding the ban on anchored putters. The position we took was pretty basic. After trying a few and never having played with anyone that used one, let the people that make the rules decide.
Tim Finchem, PGA Tour commissioner, didn’t see it that way. Last week after consulting with the player’s committee he announced the tour’s opposition to the ban. Of course any golf news that impacts the tour has to get Tiger’s opinion. Here’s that quote as it appeared on the Golf.com web site.
“My position hasn’t changed,” Woods said after his pro-am round at PGA National. “I still think it should be swung, it shouldn’t be anchored, and that hasn’t changed at all.”
Woods later added, “Hopefully we don’t have to bifurcate or adapt a local rule.”
Here’s a news flash for Tiger. There’s already a serious division. The USGA and R&A are in disagreement with the PGA Tour and even the players on the PGA Tour can’t agree. Can anyone guess where the manufacturers stand on the issue?
