Fun courses for beginners/laid back golfers
A few courses come to mind when thinking about playing a more relaxed round of golf. When you want to get out there just to get a few swings off with some buddies, have a few drinks, and not think too much.
Whispering Pines
This is a great course located next to Myrtle Beach International Airport. A fun atmosphere with some forgiving fairways makes Whispering Pines a great laid-back vibe. The course doesn’t punish you with a lot of hazards or bunkers, so it will always be a good time for new golfers still learning the trick of the trade.
Azalea Sands
Located in North Myrtle Beach, Azalea Sands caters to new golfers, especially the youth. Course management is aimed at growing the popularity of the sport within younger age groups and have made remarkable renovations to the course in that aspect. If you are a long power hitter, don’t expect to take your driver out on this course, although there will still be some tricky shots around water and bunkers.
River Oaks
This course is 27 holes of pure fun. There are 3 sets of 9 holes, named the Fox 9, Otter 9, and the Bear 9. The course was designed to challenge golfers of all skill levels and the 3 sets of 9 holes were named after animals that were found in their natural habitat during the development of the course.
More challenging courses for competitive play

A definite challenge, while also being one of the most fun courses in the Grand Strand. World Tour consists of 18 holes that are replicants of some of the most famous holes in the world. These holes include places like St. Andrews, TPC Sawgrass, Augusta, and more. Be sure to be stocked up on golf balls when you play here because the average golfer will have a challenging but fun time.
Myrtlewood Golf Club
Located along the Intracoastal waterway, Myrtlewood Golf Club is a popular facility that gives the average golfer a run for their money. This club is a local’s favorite because of the scenery and natural atmosphere. With a fair amount of water hazards and bunkers, this course can sometimes show no mercy.
Indigo Creek Golf Club
Although not very long, Indigo Creek Golf club is an exciting course with a significant amount of doglegs, water, and bunkers skewed throughout the course.
