The coastal air has turned crisp, the crowds of summer have long since vanished, and the time is right for a Grand Strand golf getaway.
With cheaper fares, nicer weather and shorter wait times at the area’s 100 championship golf course, autumn is the perfect season for a Grand Strand golf getaway. With so many amazing local golf courses, each engineered by the most respected names in golf and tailored towards every playing level, it may be difficult to decide where you and your friends want to play first. Not to worry, the Myrtle Beach Golf Authority is here to make your decision a little easier with in-depth looks at a few of the Grand Strand’s premier golf courses.
This week, we will be looking at Arrowhead Country Club.
Nestled along the serene banks of the Intracoastal waterway, this captivating coastal complex boasts three stunning nine-hole courses: The Waterway, The Cypress, and The Lakes. Designed by the legendary team of Ray Floyd and Tom Jackson, each of Arrowhead’s three 9-hole tracks offers unique layouts of varying elevation and vegetation. Each track is immaculately manicured and boasts luxurious Bermuda grass fairways and MiniVerde Bermuda grass greens.
Thanks to its unique 27-hole layout, no two experiences playing Arrowhead will ever be the same.
Winding its way through dense Carolina hardwood wetland, The Cypress track offers the most uniquely low-country experience of any of the three tracks. Floyd and Jackson took extreme care to preserve as much of the area’s natural surroundings in their design for the Cypress track. Many holes require golfers to play through verdant wetlands and shoot over stunning natural water hazards.
As the name suggests, the Lakes Course requires precise shot-making over countless harrowing water hazards. Success on this track requires a keen eye and nerves of steel. Hole #3, in particular, is guaranteed to challenge even the most skilled golfer with a bulkheaded green guarded by water on the front side.
The Waterway is a classic design featuring wide fairways, large greens, and elevated tee boxes. You will notice Floyd’s influence throughout this track as each tee box offers a visual perspective on how to play the hole. Whether you are training for the Masters or are simply looking for a fun day hitting the links with your friends, the Waterway track is sure to delight any golfer lucky enough to play it.
Arrowhead’s uniqueness was commended for in 1998 by being voted by the National Golf Course Owners Association as the “South Carolinas Golf Course of the Year.” In addition to this national recognition, Arrowhead has also been ranked among the “Best of the Beach” four consecutive years by readers of the Myrtle Beach Sun News.
No matter what you’re looking for out of your Grand Strand golf experience, Arrowhead has something for everyone. Each hole is will not only challenge your golf group’s skills but will leave each player with a lasting memory of the outstanding waterway vistas.
