The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and a warm sea breeze blows away the last remnants of winter! Spring is in the air, and the time is right to start planning your next Myrtle Beach golf trip.
With over 100 championship golf courses, each engineered by the most respected names in golf and tailored towards every playing level, the Grand Strand has a golf course to meet every player’s unique preferences. With so many courses to choose from, however, it may be challenging to decide where you and your friends want to play first. That’s why the Myrtle Beach Golf Authority is here to make your decision a little easier with in-depth looks at a few of the Grand Strand’s most famous golf courses.
This week we will be looking at the idyllic Thistle Golf Club.
Sitting like a gleaming emerald at the heart of a crown, Thistle Golf Club is an exclusive 27-hole golf course in the heart of Sunset Beach, NC. With historical ties dating back to 1815 to the original Thistle Golf Club in Leith Scotland, this contemporary showpiece offers players an experience like no other. Excellence is displayed in the outstanding design and conditioning of the course. The Thistle Club staff embodies a particular pride in their club. The tradition shines with the preservation of the history and heritage from their Scottish namesake.
Designed by legendary course architect Tim Cate, Thistle Golf Club is made up of three unique nines: Stewart, Cameron, and Mackay.
Measuring 3,547 yards from the tips, Mackay is a par-36 and is the longest nine to play. Cameron is the second-longest at 3,450 yards, also a par-36. Stewart is a par-35 and is the shortest of the nines—measuring 3,351 yards. Each of the three 9-hole layouts is challenging, with no two holes appearing to be the same. Verdant fairways flanked by rolling hills cloaked in wildflowers lead invariably through pristine coastal wetlands. More than just eye candy, though, this venue is one that is enjoyable to play. The course itself is one you’ll want to visit again and again.
Thoughtful planning of tee times at ten-minute intervals paired with an impeccably maintained course provides an old-fashioned style of consideration for the players, promoting a leisurely pace to the game. The Scottish style clubhouse perfectly captures the elegance and tradition of links style of golf. The pro shop is well stocked with logo merchandise and the snack bar at the turn offers all your favorite fare. For those of you looking to hone your skills before hitting the links, Thistle’s practice facilities are second to none.
Whether you’re training for the PGA or are just learning the game of golf for the first time, The Thistle Club is the perfect course for anyone looking for a pleasant day hitting the links. We guarantee, this may be your first trip to Thistle, but it will not be your last.
