Our Favorite Golf Event to Watch – PNC Father/Son Challenge
For us, the holiday season means that one of our favorite golf events to watch is near……. The PNC Father/Son Challenge was played down in Florida this past weekend, and as usual we love the family connection with this event. This year was the first year that the late, great Arnold Palmer and his grandson, Sam weren’t there. Arnold Palmer loved this event, and made sure that since he didn’t have a son, they allowed grandchildren to play so he could participate in this one-of-a-kind golf event.
The teams that competed this year were:
- Stewart Cink / Connor Cink

- John Daly / Little John Daly
- David Duval / Nick Karavites

- Steve Elkington / Sam Elkington

- Nick Faldo / Matthew Faldo
- Raymond Floyd / Robert Floyd

- Fred Funk / Taylor Funk
- Retief Goosen / Leo Goosen

- Hale Irwin / Steve Irwin

- Lee Janzen / Connor Janzen

- Bernhard Langer / Christina Langer

- Sandy Lyle / Stuart Lyle

- Larry Nelson / Josh Nelson

- Jack Nicklaus / Jack Nicklaus II

- Mark O’Meara / Shaun O’Meara

- Nick Price / Greg Price

- Vijay Singh / Qass Singh

- Curtis Strange / David Strange

- Lee Trevino/ Daniel Trevino

- Lanny Wadkins / Tucker Wadkins
Only players who have won a major championship or The Players can play in this event. The 2nd member of the team must not have a Tour card and this event has seen sons, daughters and grandsons play with the golf legends over the years.
This year’s champion team was…… David Duval and Nick Karavites (David Duval’s step-son). They edged out the Funks by one shot and the Goosens and Cinks by two. The fourth place team was probably the most entertaining duo – the Dalys. John and Little John wore matching loudmouth pants each day and we thought that the 13 year old “LJ” has one of the best and most promising swings that we’ve seen in a while. That kid has a future on the tour should he choose to go that way! What a fun family golf event. We look forward to it each year.
