Back in 2015, Prestwick Country Club decided against memberships and opened all the tee times to the public for play. Many people were eager to play the once entirely private course and some had indicated that the members’ loss is the public’s gain.
Prestwick is a great course – one of the best in Myrtle Beach. It has a great layout and is good condition requiring regular shot variation. The holes are appealing and each hole has it’s own surprise, leaving a course that is full of adventure with an obstacle or hazard to navigate on each hole.
Prestwick opened in 1989 and was designed by the dynamic Dye duo – Pete and son, PB. It has your typical Dye course features – complex greens that are surrounded by low lying collection areas, lots of bunkers that are full of drama and will penalize even the savviest of golfers. The 7,000 plus yard layout is fun, but challenging. Each hole is different from the next and unique. Your creativity with your short game will surely get a workout. We also like that there are many holes that turn left to right – that suites our game!
This is a great course to play year round as it features TifEagle Bermudagrass greens. The greens are in great shape, smooth and quick. With that being said, your placement on the greens is critical with this Myrtle Beach golf course. Your approach shot will be key and there are severe penalties for misses as the greens are surrounded by deep bunkers and trenches.
Your view from the tee box is scenic, and because they choose not to overseed, you will be able to see the contours of the fairways. The final hole leads to the clubhouse and you must account for the lake, regardless of which nine you play first. Both the Par-5 ninth hole and the Par-4 eighteenth hole end in the same fashion.
With six different tee boxes, you will be able to pick the best one for everybody playing in your group. Prestwick features 4 par-3 holes, 10 par-4 holes and 4 par-5 holes – each playing equally difficult for your group.
Regardless of what time of year you play, Prestwick Golf Course is a great addition to any Myrtle Beach golf package. Book yours today!
