Tiger’s Eye Golf Links is welcoming golfers once again as one of the premier courses in the Myrtle Beach area. On September 22, the fabulous Myrtle Beach area golf course once again opened its doors for the golfers to hunt again – for pars, birdies, and even eagles. The course closed to complete a two-month project where they install new TifEagle Bermuda grass greens.
Once ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses by Golf Digest, the new greens that have been installed at Tiger’s Eye will make sure that this Myrtle Beach area golf course remains one of the top courses in Brunswick County. Tiger’s Eye Golf Course is one of four golf courses at Ocean Ridge Plantation. The courses are named after various cats and therefore named the “Big Cats” courses. Tiger’s Eye, Lion’s Paw, Pather’s Run and Leopard’s Chase are the quartet of courses that make up a fantastic resort to play and are featured in our Big Cat’s package.
Designed by Tim Cate, the decision to change the greens came after research was completed and it was determined that the newer strain of Bermuda would be better suited for the subtropical climate. This would give the course a good putting surface year round, while maintaining the speed and playability of Bentgrass, even though it’s Bermuda. The TifEagle Bermuda can also be found and other well-known golf courses such as TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, FL and Harbor Town in Hilton Head Island, SC.
While the greens were being overhauled, the staff at Tiger’s Eye also have the course a facelift. This included sprucing up the bunkers that designer Cate like to use to mold the layout of the course and make the course more appealing for the golfer’s eye.
