Topgolf may be coming to Myrtle Beach! Representatives for the company are expected to request a conceptual review to the City of Myrtle Beach Community Appearance Board this week for a new 38,000+ sq. ft. building off of Robert Grissom Parkway at 29th Ave. When the company was contacted the spokesperson said that they are infact pursuing a Myrtle Beach location, but she offered no other details at the time.
Topgolf opened it’s first NC location in Charlotte last week. The Charlotte location is a 65,000 sq. ft. facility that they estimate to have 450,000 visitors during the first year of operation. They are already planning another location in Charlotte.
So, what exactly is Topgolf? They classify themselves as a combination of sport (golf) and entertainment. The buildings consist of climate-controlled hitting bays that can hold up to six players at a time and they also have private space to be used for events as well. Each Topgolf location has golf games that keep score using golf balls with microchips in them that will show the scores instantly, along with accuracy and distance numbers on the TV screen in each hitting bay. Usually the building has two floors of hitting bays.
Each location also features good chef inspired menus, adult beverages large TV’s and music. The events are offered year round and are for people of all ages – from kids to seniors. They will offer leagues, tournaments and even instruction. The hours of operation normally go well into the evening, for lots of nighttime fun. Who said golf only is played during the day?
Currently, Topgolf has 33 locations, with 30 of the venues being in the United States and 3 in the UK. With all of the 33 locations, they have over 10 million visitors each year.
