The Dog Days of summer have officially arrived, and that can only mean one thing: it is tournament season on the Grand Strand!
Every year the Grand Strand plays host to dozens of competitive golf tournaments for amateurs and professionals alike. And, while Covid-19 forced organizers to cancel or postpone a few of the spring tournaments, the Grand Strand is still gearing up to host five phenomenal golf tournaments in the coming months.
Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship—August 31st-September 4th
Open to players of all skill levels, the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship is one of the Grand Strand’s largest annual tournaments. Every year, more than 3,300 players from over 25 countries and all 50 states flock to Myrtle Beach to play in this 72-hole event. Tournament participants are placed in tightly grouped flights based on age, gender, and handicap. The sophisticated handicap system equitably levels the playing field and is the backbone of the event’s 30+ years of success.
Covid-19 Precautions
To ensure the health and safety of all tournament participants, the organizers of the World Amateur Handicap Championship have made several important policy changes to this year’s tournament.
- First, no spectators will be allowed on any course.
- Second, there will be no 19th hole after-party.
- Third, each player will have a private golf cart.
- Fourth, there will be no more than 72 golfers at each course—approximately 36 players per flight.
- Fifth, flights may have players with the same handicap in a neighboring flight.
- Sixth, the tournament’s organizers have instituted a tee time window in threesomes: courses firing on the first and tenth tee will have an 8 am – 9:39 am window. First tees only will have a 7:30 am – 10:57 am window.
- Lastly, complimentary range balls will be provided and placed on the ranges to avoid excessive contact.
Please be aware, each golf course on the week of the tournament will be following all federal CDC guidelines and reserve the option to institute additional policies as needed. All tournament participants are kindly asked to respect these policies.
Saintnine Shootout—September 5th-September 6th
Hosted by Golf Channel’s Charlie Rymer, The Saintnine Shootout is a two-day, 36-hole tournament. Entrance to the tournament is capped at 120 participants, who will have the privilege to play at two of the Grand Strand’s most illustrious courses: Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club. All tournament participants will also receive a gift bag package courtesy of Saintnine, an emerging leader in premium golf balls.
The entry fee for the tournament is $175 and includes two rounds of golf, a dozen Saintnine U-Pro golf balls, and shoulder wraps from Sparms Sun Protection.
Veterans Golf Classic—September 27th-September 30th
Entering its 21st year, the Veterans Golf Classic is a three-day celebration combination of golf, fun, and the fraternal bond shared by all members of the American Military. Every year, over 400 players flock to the Grand Strand to participate in this incredible tournament to enjoy a few days hitting the links, telling stories, and sharing memories amongst fellow veterans. All branches are welcome and encouraged to sign-up.
